We are excited to announce that, as of March 1st, Marcus Wallin has been appointed as the new director of SITES. Marcus is already well-known in our community, having previously led the SITES Water Program, where he made a significant impact through his leadership and dedication. We look forward to working with Marcus in his new role and seeing the continued growth and success of SITES under his direction! Here is a little more about him:
- Marcus, tell us about your background:
I grew up on a farm in Uppland and have always spent a lot of time in nature for example on skis or for hunting. This has raised a general interest for understanding how nature works and the human role. The choice to study ecosystem science was thus a logical path, and I have for the last 20 years been conducting different ecosystem related research (mainly within the fields of biogeochemistry, hydrology, limnology), often with SITES included field stations as a basis. For the last two years I have also coordinated the SITES water program.
- What are you most looking forward to working as SITES director?
I very much look forward to work with all great and skilled people within the SITES community. The stations and the tremendous work they do, together with the generated data are all unique resources for the national and international research community. To support the work in maintaining and develop this resource to meet current and future societal challenges will be exciting.
- What do you do in your free time?
I gladly spend my time with the family, in the forest for hunting, on skis, or by our summer house at the coast in Sörmland.
