November Collaboration in Focus: A Holistic Approach to Land-Water-Atmosphere Interactions at SITES Svartberget

05 November 2024

At Svartberget Research Station, the integration of research infrastructures and equipment provides a comprehensive perspective on the interconnected dynamics of land, water, and atmosphere. As a participant in all three SITES thematic programs—SITES Water, SITES AquaNet, and SITES Spectral—the station has a major role in ecosystem monitoring, reinforcing its commitment to studying complex environmental interactions across various domains. In addition to that, Svartberget hosts atmospheric monitoring infrastructures like ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System), ACTRIS (Aerosols, Clouds, and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure), and the BorealScat-2 radar. By integrating terrestrial, aquatic, and atmospheric systems, Svartberget enhances interdisciplinary research efforts.

The SITES 2024 Calendar theme is “SITES Collaborations”. SITES aims to promote excellent ecosystem research and high-quality data that support this research. This includes collaborations that increase the number of projects that utilize multiple SITES stations and connect between aquatic and terrestrial processes. Further, SITES aims to strengthen the collaborations with relevant research infrastructures and networks across Sweden and internationally, including data infrastructures and services. Each month during 2024, follow along as we highlight a unique SITES collaboration.
